因为除此之外没有见过其词尾加s的情况.而且可以被 a few 等只能修饰不可数名词的形容词修饰.如：a few hundred meters.好像还不能用several等修饰可数名词的形容词前缀.
但后来又发现它们被many 修饰.还不能用much 来修饰.
如：
The thing's how many hundred years old?
这东西几百年了?

hundred,thousand,million,billion等这些词是可数名词,但是前面如果有具体的数词,或a few,some,many修饰时,它们本身不用变成复数,还用单数形式,但是意义上是复数形式.但是如果前面没有具体的数词,并且后面有of时,表示不确定的数目时,如成千上万的,数百的,几百万的时候,它们要变成复数,即后面加s,如 hundreds of,thousands of等.另外,你说的“a few只能修饰不可数名词”是一种错误的说法,相反a few,few修饰的是可数名词,而a little,little修饰不可数名词.
如果hundred前有基数词或者直接修饰名词时，用单数形式；若前没有基数词，后也没有直接修饰名词，通常用复数形式。
dozen/ score/ hundred / thousand / million / billion 等是一种特殊的可数名词，有复数意义，但一般没有复数形式，只有下列情况下用得数形式：
