实际上,look up the dictionary 和 look the dictionary up 从语法上来说都是正确的,但有时候动词短语后跟的名词或名词性词组太长,容易造成理解上的误解,所以不管从习惯上还是理解上来说会用look up the dictionary
举个例子,The police found suspect hiding in the old small inn out.
The police found out suspect hiding in the old small inn.
两句相比,第二句更清楚.
只有当名词或名词性词组,在上文出现过,下文用代词代替时,才能用 look sth.up 的形式,比如,The police was told that the suspect was in an old small inn,and then they found him out.
